why the healthy millennial?

I started The Healthy Millennial as a young adult in the midst of change. I was leaving the security of university and entering the world of adulthood. It wasn’t an easy transition. I was overwhelmed, like many others.

Navigating
early adulthood is tough. There’s a whole heap of unfamiliar & challenging pressures.

Your schedule is completely overhauled, many move out of home and managing finances can be difficult. Oftentimes, nutrition falls by the wayside. If you also happen to be an aspiring or elite athlete through this time, things can start to feel difficult to balance.

Finding a balance shouldn't be so hard!
With the right information, knowledge and strategies it doesn’t need to be.

I created The Healthy Millennial to engage young people with their health in a sensible and realistic way, through an approach that suits their dynamic lifestyle, whilst teaching strategies that build knowledge foundations for their future.

a little bit about caity edmonds

As a kid, I loved being active. My mornings were spent at swimming training and my afternoons playing whatever D.I.Y sport my brother had invented for the week (think knee cricket in the upstairs lounge room, high jump on the couches or triathlons around the backyard pool). When it came to food, I was a fussy eater, insisting on spaghetti bolognese most nights of the week.

Throughout my teens, anxious and perfectionist sensibilities led me to feel pressure at school, which coincided with unease around areas related to my health. In challenging times, Dr. Google didn’t do me any favours and I was left desperate for an explanation for why I didn’t feel great a lot of the time.

The internet can be a confusing place for a young person, especially one looking to understand something as complex as their health. This key issue became a major motivating force behind my studies and today, lies at the core of The Healthy Millennial’s mission.

As I matured, I found an appreciation for delicious food and became completely fascinated by nutrition & performance. This eventually led me to studying a Bachelor of Exercise & Sport Science and a Master of Nutrition & Dietetics at The University of Sydney.

This once (and at times still) anxious and perfectionist teen has graduated to adulthood.
I’m not always nailing life, though what my knowledge in health has allowed me to achieve is:

  • A balanced approach to my diet & health.

  • The ability to see through the misleading messaging circulated online.

  • An appreciation that wellbeing is multifaceted.

  • The ability to prioritise my health without the stress & mental strain it once required.

If I’ve learned anything, it’s that engaging with your health as a young adult - in a way that is balanced and individualised - is essential.

A healthy lifestyle isn’t achieved by putting yourself through a series of quick fixes and fad diets, or about being hard on yourself if you don’t live up to unachievable online standards.

A healthy lifestyle is about practising individualised and sustainable strategies that compliment your day-to-day behaviours and add value to your quality of life.
